Mendoza

Well it's been a long week. Molly's friend, Ryan stayed with us for a couple nights before he continued on his journey to Salta. We went out to a Brazilian club on his last night and it was incredible, the music, dancing, everything. People stared at us for the majority of the night..I'm not sure why we stand out so much??Brian arrived last Sunday, the day Ryan left, and we headed straight for the bus station. Not to pick on my older brother, but her seriously packed more shit than I brought for 3 months. I didn't think it was possible. We skyped the night before he left Denver and he asked "think I need my head lamp, fly fishing gear, or sleeping pad?" Brian, No. But sure enough, he brought it all and we trekked through dowtown BA through the subways with his gigantic hiking backpack and we hopped on our 15 hr bus that took us to wine country. Mendoza, here we come.

We arrived at 8AM and headed for our hostel. Neither of us did any research on Mendoza before arriving, sorry Dad, so we asked the guy working at our hostel for some ideas. He set us up on an excursion to our first Bodega, or vineyard. We went to one of the biggest bodegas first and went on a tour through their cellar, etc. Got to taste some wine, but nothing like the WINEWIES in California. We stopped by an olive orchard before heading to the second bodega. That part was sweet and we got to eat some bread and olive oil
which was delicious.

The second bodega was smaller and family owned and they were super friendly. The tour wasn't at all what I expected Mendoza to be like, it was pretty weak. I was picturing rolling hills with vineyards as far as the eye could see....When we got back to the hostel we asked some other guests what to do and they recommended totally different vineyards to check out. We were a little annoyed that we wasted a day on this excursion, but I guess we learned our lesson.

The second day we were in Mendoza we took a taxi to the bodegas and ate at this amazing french restaurant. A couple from BC, Canada moved to Mendoza and opened a gourmet french restaurant out of their home. That's how I imagined the wineries in Argetina. After an incredible lunch we walked to the vineyard down the street and sat on the terrace drinking wine and meeting new people.
I actually bumped into a couple that was in my hostel in Mar del Plata a couple weeks back. Small world.
